Haverhill, MA- Alexandra Chandler, Democratic Candidate for Congress in Massachusetts' 3rd District, is pleased to announce that she is expanding her campaign team with the hiring of Terry McGinty as her new Finance Director. McGinty is a political veteran, having begun his career serving on the Washington, D.C. staff of Senator Ted Kennedy. He was the Public Service Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School before leading the National Democratic Institute as Director of its Tajikistan office.
McGinty has trained political parties around the world including the Dem. Rep. of the Congo and Colombia, is a former member of the Democratic State Committee, and was an election observer for the 2008 and 2012 Obama campaigns in NH.
While growing her staff, Chandler enjoyed a busy schedule throughout the first quarter, meeting voters across the 3rd Congressional District and answering their questions about her insights on Russia, North Korea, and Syria as a former leader of analysts at the Office of Naval Intelligence targeting arms smuggling and the spread of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). As the only candidate in MA-3 with professional national security experience, interest in Chandler from the Massachusetts electorate is even higher given widespread concerns about the direction of U.S. foreign policy and Chandler's ability to serve as a leader in checking the Administration's recklessness at home and abroad from day one.
In addition to her first endorsements from an elected official and a Democratic Party city committee chair in MA-3, Chandler was particularly proud to earn a Candidate Distinction from Moms Demand Action | Everytown for Gun Safety for her platform on gun safety and reform. Her stance is especially relevant due to her experience as a mother who had a close call with a lockdown of her son's school for a nearby active shooter and also as an Intelligence Community leader who worked to prevent the smuggling of weapons to terrorists and to conflict zones. This was confirmed by a number of voters she met while attending the March for Our Lives events held in Haverhill and Chelmsford.
Finally, it was another busy quarter for fundraising. Chandler raised an additional $35,248.02 to add to her funds raised in 2017, reaching a total of $85,842.39. With 50% of those donations to Chandler being less than $35, her campaign is grounded in the grassroots and has a wide range of support among the working and middle class people she seeks to represent. In a race that will likely be won with fewer than 30,000 votes, Team Chandler is confident that they will have the resources to get Alexandra’s message out to a winning coalition of voters who value her national security expertise, concrete plans to address kitchen table issues, and her leadership in taking on Big Money politics.
Alexandra Chandler looks forward to continuing to meet with 3rd Congressional District voters to talk about the issues that matter most to them. She seeks to represent them in the seat currently held by departing Congresswoman Niki Tsongas.
