Lauren Young has previous record of beating Congressional primary opponents with 10:1 fundraising advantage; will serve as Deputy Campaign Manager
Haverhill, Mass. - A former staffer on U.S. Senator Doug Jones's Alabama campaign is now working to elect former senior Naval Intelligence analyst Alexandra Chandler in Massachusetts' 3rd Congressional District, her campaign announced today.
UMass Lowell grad Lauren Young, who was Deputy Digital Director for Jones, will serve as Deputy Campaign Manager in Chandler’s bid to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas.
"I'm thrilled to have a top-tier campaign professional like Lauren at my side as I continue on this journey,” Chandler said. "When campaigns like Senator Doug Jones's shock the political world with an upset like the one we saw last month in Alabama, you can bet that a lot of talented people like Lauren contributed to that victory.”
Young also previously served as Campaign Manager for the Solen for Congress campaign in Wisconsin’s 1st District in 2016, in a run to unseat Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. She deployed a network of volunteers and activists to lead the Solen for Congress campaign to an 18-point victory in the Democratic primary, despite their campaign being out-fundraised by a 10:1 margin.
Young expressed her enthusiasm at joining the Chandler campaign.
“I am excited to work with Alexandra Chandler. She is strong on the issues I care about most, the same issues that drew me to work for Doug Jones: support for equality and inclusion for all, the belief that health care is a right, not a privilege, and a commitment to bring home higher paying jobs and to educate the workforce for them.”
“As a resident of Massachusetts’ 3rd Congressional District, it is extremely important for me to see that my family, friends, and neighbors have a representative who will fight for us every single day and I know Alexandra is the one to do it and to get things done. And with her experience in national security, we can all sleep better knowing she is helping to keep Americans safe.”
Chandler also announced that her campaign raised more than $50,000 in contributions in the first six weeks after announcing her campaign on November 15, 2017. That haul was raised from over 270 donors with 75% of those contributing less than $100.
