The nation's only PAC focused on electing progressive, transgender leaders to office, helped double the number of trans elected officials in 2017. Today, they announced Alexandra Chandler as their first top-tier Transforming Democracy candidate of 2018.
Today, Alexandra Chandler welcomed the endorsement of Trans United Fund. Trans United Fund’s mission is to build political power for transgender and gender expansive people to tackle economic and social issues that affect all Americans while disproportionately impacting trans and gender expansive communities. The “Transforming Democracy’ endorsement is Trans United Fund’s highest tier of endorsement.
"Trans United Fund is proud to endorse Alexandra Chandler for U.S. Congress. Alexandra has a progressive vision for her district where trans people – and all people – can truly thrive. She’s a leader with a deep understanding of and commitment to racial and economic justice for all people. She brings policy expertise with a track record of getting things done. She’s tackled some of the toughest problems in the world, including weapons smuggling to terrorist groups and WMD proliferation, and she’s a champion Massachusetts families can count on.
I’m particularly proud of the endorsement because I grew up in a working class family in East Boston, MA. I know that families in the district face many of the same issues that my family struggled with - from making ends meet, to the shame of addiction, to access to healthcare – all issues that so many trans people face. I’m grateful to have a fighter like Alexandra in Congress to fight for people like my family of origin and my chosen family of trans and gender expansive people.”

During the 2017 election cycle, Trans United Fund and its associated Breakthrough Fund Initiative PAC provided expertise and financial resources to help transgender candidates win historic victories, including the election of Virginia Delegate-elect Danica Roem, and Minneapolis City Councilmembers-elect Phillipe Cunningham and Andrea Jenkins. Trans United Fund endorses openly trans candidates and allies that demonstrate a commitment to LGBTQ equality, racial and economic justice.
Chandler welcomed Trans United Fund’s endorsement.
“I’m thrilled to have the support of Trans United Fund.” Chandler said. “Trans United Fund’s game-changing role in the election of so many transgender candidates in 2017 illustrates their winning playbook. They provide candidates the network of resources and expertise to help candidates run and win addressing working and middle class challenges that matter most to voters. These challenges are the same challenges that matter most to transgender people. Working class issues are transgender issues.”
“Living in New York City on the morning of 9/11, as I panicked in my apartment, not knowing if my then-girlfriend and now-wife on a subway train under Manhattan was OK, I made a promise to dedicate myself to public service. That's why I signed up to serve in the intelligence community for 13 years, and that's why I'm running for Congress: to serve my community. I understand the needs of our community, seeing my own father’s struggle with unemployment, underemployment, disability and addiction before his death when I was 17. And now, as a mother and national security professional, and someone with experience in community healthcare, I worry a lot about the future of my family and our country. I am all too aware of the threats our country faces from abroad, but I'm also concerned about the dangerous political extremes that threaten our shared future here at home. We're at a crossroads and sometimes it doesn't seem like the professional politicians get the challenges that working and middle class people face.”
“I will tackle underemployment and unemployment. I will fight for access to lower cost healthcare for all. And I will be a progressive leader on issues from equality for all, to addiction treatment, gun control and criminal justice reform that will build opportunity, dignity, and real security for all the communities of our district and America.”
“And with Trans United Fund’s endorsement,” Chandler continued, “I am one big step closer to having the resources and support to run and win.”
