Today, Alexandra Chandler is announcing her candidacy for Congress in the 3rd District of Massachusetts.
"I’m running for Congress because I believe that if we want better outcomes, we must have the courage to demand better from our leaders. I know something about courage. As a transgender woman, I was one of the first in the U.S. intelligence community to transition on the job as an analyst," Alexandra wrote in an email to supporters.
"Now more than ever, we must have the courage to stand together. We must stand up to the broken politics of Washington and to Donald Trump’s attacks on opportunity, dignity and security for so many Americans. We must stand up to career politicians who see election to Congress as a promotion rather than a public service.
"Radical politicians and gridlock threaten our communities’ economic security. Too many families, individuals, and small businesses are falling through the cracks. Three generations of my family – my parents, my wife and our two sons, live together in Haverhill. I’m running because my kids – all our kids – deserve the better future that we have the power to create.
"I will stand up for jobs and better pay. I will stand up for better healthcare at a lower cost, on the way to universal health care and paid family leave for all. I will stand up for better addiction treatment, for common-sense firearms safety solutions, for voting rights and civil liberties, and for policies to combat climate change."
